J.R.R. Tolkein’s middle earth is not the only breath-taking imaginary world.

You wish for a subjective world that appeals to you in all the ways. Though such a wish for a personal world could not be realized, there is a way to gratify that wish. That is through art.

Artists get inspired and create mind-bending landscapes and city-scapes from their memories and synthesis. Great visionaries like Tolkein have created such awesome imaginary worlds which made every one of us wish to live.

Globetrotting artist Marco Vallino is no different. Over the course of five years, Vallino travelled the world in search of inspiration. What he found along the way eventually culminated in the creation of a massive map known as Maze City.

The city he created is simply mind blowing.

Called Rabath Jany, this ancient city took up residence in every corner of his mind as he delved further and further into some of the richest and most diverse cultures in the world.   imaginary-city-you-want-to-visit-0

Every detail was born from an interaction between the artist and his rapidly changing surroundings.   imaginary-city-you-want-to-visit-1

“The mix of different people, cultures, and natural landscapes I met during my trip,” he writes, “has deeply influenced the development of this city.”   imaginary-city-you-want-to-visit-2

While the city itself may be imagined, the piece is a mosaic that’s made up of the many places he’s hung his hat over the years — all of which are very real.   imaginary-city-you-want-to-visit-3

Somehow, every piece of the puzzle — different as it may be from its neighbor — flows seamlessly into the next.   imaginary-city-you-want-to-visit-4

As of now, Vallino intends to continue traveling and adding new features to his ever-growing Rabath Jany.   imaginary-city-you-want-to-visit-5

Even Vallino doesn’t know when it will be finished   imaginary-city-you-want-to-visit-7

Rabath Jany is an ancient city in Babaria, built across the fiords of both Silvenaos and Yellow seas.   imaginary-city-you-want-to-visit-8

It is better known as Maze city due to its complex architectural structure.   imaginary-city-you-want-to-visit-10

“I developed this painting traveling around the world during five years. The mix of different people, cultures and natural landscapes I met during my trip has deep influenced the development of the maze city.”

“Rabath Jany is the result of such mix of cultures I met during my trips. I can say that the Maze city is a real architectural and cultural puzzle. During this trip I understood an important feature of my drawings: they are limitless, thus I must not “conclude” them, never!”
