What The Original Stonehenge Might Have Looked Like Back Then Is So Weird

One of the greatest mysteries of the ancient world is that of Stonehenge. This hulking structure was constructed at some point between 3000 and 2000 BCE. Beyond the basics, however, researchers don’t know much about the site’s past.

One English landscape architect is now exploring a rather interesting theory about Stonehenge’s true purpose. In the process, she’s come up with a new model for what the ancient site might’ve looked like when it was built.

Sarah Ewbank posted the following pictures of how she believes Stonehenge originally looked.   what-original-stonehenge-looked-like-is-weird-0

Ewbank believes that the stones we now see at the site used to be support columns for a giant roundhouse. She even speculates that the structure had a second story!   what-original-stonehenge-looked-like-is-weird-1

She believes that the roundhouse served as a venue for various gatherings, like feasts, lectures, and concerts. “Our bronze-age ancestors were intelligent people with needs similar to ours today. Forget the furry loincloth and ritual sacrifice stuff — it’s wrong,” said Ewbank.

Here is what the 4,000-year-old structure looks like today. There are certainly no signs that it ever had a roof, but that doesn’t bother Ewbank.   what-original-stonehenge-looked-like-is-weird-2

If there really had been a roofing structure, it would have long since rotted away. Perhaps it’s just been lost to history.   what-original-stonehenge-looked-like-is-weird-3

Ewbank’s view on Stonehenge has been met with criticism, but there are those who think that she might be onto something.   what-original-stonehenge-looked-like-is-weird-4

She is raising funds for creating a 1:10 model of the stonehenge for further studies. Check Sunhenge
