President Obama had a message to share during this year’s Grammys, and he won the hearts and respect of viewers everywhere when he put the plight of rape and abuse victims front and center. The biggest problem brand India faces today is ‘rape’. While the govt. had come up with strict laws to curb the perpetrators, the numbers show it has no impact. In India, apart from laws, the thinking and attitude of men toward women should change. And here Obama makes it clear why the media has huge responsibility on bringing up the change. He started by stating that nearly 1 in 5 women in the U.S. have experienced rape or attempted rape, and that more than 1 in 4 have suffered some kind of domestic violence.
“Artists have a unique power to change minds and attitudes, and get us thinking and talking about what matters,” Obama said. “And all of us, in our own lives, have the power to set an example. Join our campaign to stop this violence.”This message is not just for US. Indian movie and music industry should listen and understand that they have the responsibility and means to influence the Indian men to respect women. Rather than showing women as objects of pleasure in films, they should focus on showing them as the makers of the next generation.
